Happy almost Summer everyone! I don't know about you, but I am enjoying all of this hot weather while lounging out at the pool and having BBQ's! Although, as much as I love having fun in the sun, the sun can cause a lot of damage to the skin, which is why we all have to make sure to have one important thing around - aka sunscreen! :) Now, we all know a little about sunscreen, but there may be some things you don't know. Here are some fun facts about sunscreen as well as two of my recommendations!
One of the first things you want to look for when buying a sunscreen is that it's broad spectrum. What that means is the sunscreen protects your skin from UVA as well as UVB rays.
Now, what are UVA and UVB rays? The A in UVA actually stands for "anti-aging." They are rays that cause the visible signs of aging. The B in UVB stands for "burn," and they are the rays that cause the skin to burn and turn that bright lobster red color.
But how can you tell how much protection sunscreen has against the two different types of rays? One of the more well known ways is looking at the SPF. SPF is actually the measurement of the degree of UVB protection. Fun fact - SPF 50 blocks 98% of those pesky rays. Another way is looking at PA levels. That is the measurement of the degree of UVA protection. The highest level is actually PA +++.
So just a little recap - when looking at sunscreens, you want to pay attention to broad spectrum, SPF, and PA levels! Now, here are my recommendations!
1. Coppertone Clearly Sheer: Beach and Pool (SPF 50+)
2. Kate Somerville Daily Deflector Mosturizer (SPF 50+ and PA +++)
