Say What? || 10 Foods that are Good for Your Skin

Now that is Summer is right around the corner, it's time to really focus on taking care of our skin. The harsh sun rays, chlorinated pool water, and constant want to eat ice cream all day can really take a toll on our skin. Thankfully, we don't need to spend tons of money on expensive treatments and bad chemicals to make our skin stay healthy and beautiful! All we need to do is take a trip to the local farmer's market or grocery store and pick up some of your favorite fruits and veggies, as well as other foods you may not expect! Here's that food I highly recommend you taking a look at! :)

#1 - Cocoa / Dark Chocolate: Might as well start out with the really good stuff! Plus, who knew chocolate could be good for you? Cocoa actually hydrates your skin, and dark chocolate has high levels of lavonols, which is a potent type of antioxidant. If you happen to want to wear it, the cocoa helps reduce puffiness of the skin.

#2 - Yogurt: Yogurt is great to eat, but it's also beneficial to wear! It helps with moisturizing as well as preventing premature aging. If you have acne prone skin, the yogurt contains anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties, which fight against what causes the acne. It also can help reduce coloration you might have!

#3 - Oatmeal: Once made and cooled down to a lukewarm temperature, oatmeal becomes a great remedy for acne. It helps remove dead skin cells as well as soak up the oil. It can also be used to sooth sunburns and poison ivy and even act as a moisturizer!

#4 - Green Tea: Using loose leaf green tea, you can quickly see a big difference in your skin. The tea flushes out toxins from the skin and heals blemishes and scars. It can also reduces inflammation as well as dark circles under the eyes, which no one ever wants! Of course, green tea is great when fighting against those pesky pimples too!

#5 - Honey: Honey is probably one of my favorite foods to use on my skin as well as have with a snack! It is honestly great at helping with everything, including moisturizing, cleaning pores, exfoliating, fading scars, and yes - even fighting acne! The antibacterial and anti fungal properties honey has just makes it one of the most unstoppable foods! If you can get your hands on some organic honey, then you definitely need to get it!

#6 - Orange Peel: After you finish eating that yummy orange, don't throw away the peel! The peel itself has just as many benefits as the actual pulp! Those benefits include giving your skin a shiny glow as well as renewing worn out skin cells. Who would have thought?!

#7 - Coffee: Now, hold on! Before you run out to Starbucks and grab a latte, I just want to point out that I mean fresh coffee grounds to create a scrub! This scrub can actually help brighten skin, soften any lines, and prevent those clogged pores. It is also good for de-puffing those pesky puffy under eyes. If you just drink those lattes from Starbucks, then you may actually causing more harm to your skin with all the sugars and dairy! Stick to the good stuff! 

#8 - Chickpeas: Turns out these little guys are great for many things other than tasty hummus! They can be made into a paste on their own and rubbed on the skin to reduce age spots and remove wrinkles. Chickpeas are also good at being a facial cleanser! Who knew?

#9 - Kiwi: This fruit does require what seems to be a special skill to cut, but once you do so, the benefits are fabulous! Kiwis are actually one of the fruits that have one of the leading sources of Vitamin C, which is so amazing for your skin. It helps to protect and rejuvenate damaged skin (a definite need as we all grow older) and helps with wound healing and skin pigmentation. Kiwis also contain Vitamin E, and that fights against the formation of free radicals.

# 10 - Pomegranate: If you can manage to get all those seeds out and ready to eat, you're going to be happy you did! Pomegranate is excellent for helping out dry, dull skin and decrease any roughness that you may get. The antioxidants in pomegranates actually help reduce the inflammation that occurs when you get acne and reducing any collagen breakdown that our skin goes through as we get older!

Always drink Water: I cannot stress enough about how important water is to your skin as well as the rest of your body! The benefits are multiple and amazing, so just drink up! :)
